Some Homemade Croutons

Last night I stumbled upon Come On, Ilene! and I was hooked, everything Ilene makes is so cute and doable! (If there are two things I like, it’s cute and doable.)

I stumbled upon this post that details how to make a totally awesome soup! It also mentions how to make croutons. The carb-addict in me said that the next thing I baked had to be some croutons! So when my mom and I went to WinCo (bright AND early this morning!) I picked up the ingredients I was missing.

Almost as soon as we got back I got to work. This recipe was so simple, quick, and not frustrating!

Here are my results!

They look good, right? They taste even better than they look!

FYI, the tomato in the salad is homegrown. My mom was VERY excited about the tomatoes, so shout out to her!

Here are Ilene’s instructions for the croutons,

I also like to serve with some homemade croutons, just like how they do it at the Corner Bakery.    I use some sourdough bread that I cut into 1/2″ cubes and toss with minced garlic, olive oil, worcestershire sauce and fresh parsley and thyme. Toast in the oven for about 8 minutes until crisp.

I didn’t follow her instructions exactly. Instead of minced garlic, I used a bit of garlic powder. I didn’t have fresh parsley, but I did have dried parsley from a small jar! I also did not use any thyme. (I’m not big on the taste of thyme.)

I toasted them in the oven for about 10 minutes on 375 degrees. I wanted them to still be a little chewy for when we used them on our salads for dinner tonight!  (They were!)

This recipe was absolutely delicious and I plan to keep it in the back of my mind whenever I think I need to buy croutons. These are FAR better than the store-bought croutons.

Before I leave you to go binge on a salad full of crouton love, I promise I am sewing and stitching! I just haven’t completed anything yet! I’ve decided to take on several big projects before I leave for Evansville, and they’ve been dictating a lot of my time. Let me just say that I’ve got about three quilts to get done! One I’ve just started today and two I’ve been working on for a few weeks.
